Deciding where to live as a student at Middle Tennessee State University can be difficult, but depending on your chosen lifestyle, transportation, and needs it can be a simple choice. Murfreesboro offers a wide variety of living arrangements for every student, and is home to dozens of housing complexes. From renting a whole house to living in the dorms, everyone can find a place to call their own. Navigating your choices can seem like a daunting task, but with a little guidence these choices can be made simple. The following photos show some various types of living arrangements that MTSU's students currently inhabit, and can shed some light on the space you'll be inhabiting for the next few years of your college life.
Dorm Life
Many students at MTSU find themselves in a dorm building similar to this. Its parking lot full of various vehicles with red parking passes - a must have for living on campus - and generally provide the easiest access to campus amenities. But be warned, parking is never guaranteed and neither are good roommates.
Life inside the dorms may seem cramped - and it is - but throw a PC or a console on your desk and a mini fridge under your bed and you have a pretty decent place to spend a rainy day. With the right roommate, dorm life can be exciting - apart from sharing a bathroom.
Fraternity House Life
It may sound scary - and for neat freaks it is - but fraternity living is a big part of many college men's lives. Living in a fraternity house, for example the Sigma Pi's house, can be a thrilling experience. Some fraternities double up in each room with roommates, but some allow each brother to have his own room; in our case Sigma Pi chose the latter. For the students who are more social this arrangement can offer amazing memories with the people you enjoy hanging out with, and with so many roommates there is always carpools to campus, shared food, and someone to help out with a hard assignment. Oh, and don't worry about parking either.
The phrase," Beauty in the chaos," comes to mind when thinking about living in a fraternity house, as you can find a wide variety of strange decorations and mis-match - but comfy - furniture. You might even find a random stuffed polar bear laying around. If you like bunk beds this is also the place for you, every room has a bunk bed in it, but be careful not to fall or get tangled in string lights on the way up.
Rental House Life
The grass is always greener at your own house - but the rent may be too. Coming with a hearty price tag, rental houses are a great way to select your own roommates and live out your best suburban life. With a slightly longer drive to campus and many non-college families living around you life can be quite a bit more peaceful. This arrangement works best for the students who want the quiet life and tend to be keen on cleanliness, chores, and furniture. With assigned parking spots and no shortage of ring doorbell cameras you can rest assured your vehicle will always have a place to call its own.
Cooks rejoice, finally a place to cook those five star meals. Renting in the,"Boro" can be a dream for those who like space - including counter space. This specific rental property boasts a living room, spacious kitchen, breakfast room, back patio, a walk-in pantry, two bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two stories of space. This living style is perfect for the interior designers, as there is plenty room for that furniture piece and plenty of wall space for paintings, posters, and more.
Rent by the Room and Apartment Living
Similar to the rental house layout, multi-bedroom houses are found all over Murfreesboro using a rent-by-the-room system. This living style is perfect for the student who wants the best of all worlds. Need space to park? They have assigned parking spots. Want to go swimming? They have a pool. Getting in that morning workout? They have a gym. Worried about security? They have on-site police officers and cameras. Traveling to campus? They have a shuttle. In this case, Cobalt Row offers a wide variety of experiences based upon your chosen house and roommates. All the perks of a rental house, and less than half the cost - if you can stand who you live with.
Cooking, grilling, homework, hangouts, and late night talks all happen in this brightly colored complex. Decorations are optional, but if you choose you can furnish it yourself. In the case of my roommate and myself, snagging some Facebook marketplace finds and some antique store bargains can make for a very home-style vibe and make this two bedroom duplex a home. Not to mention you get your own bathroom, walk-in closet, and even have a guest bathroom downstairs.
